About 6 months ago, the Rosa brothers (founders of AFG) met a local man named Kenny Thompson. Kenny is the founder of Feed the Future Forward and began this journey by simply paying off negative lunch account balances at an elementary school in Spring Branch ISD, and has since started a movement that has spread to multiple school districts!
It’s horrible to think a child is at school AND hungry but then finds out there is not enough money on their account to be able to eat lunch!
We could not just sit around and do nothing after hearing these stories of children being denied lunch so our AFG family wanted to help!
Thompson became aware of the problem when one of the several students he mentors was served a cold cheese sandwich at an elementary school in Spring Branch ISD. The student’s parents had not paid their bill, and he was served a subpar lunch as a result.
FACT: When accounts are not paid, the district has to use educational funds to cover the expense, he added. Some schools have additional funds set aside to help out – but other campuses do not.
This past June, we had a car wash at all of our Twin Peaks locations across Houston and raised almost $3,000 in just a few hours!! That’s to the TPG’s and our great management staff, everyone came together and this will help many kids get lunch this coming school year!
We are not done yet! Please feel free to help by visiting www.FeedtheFutureForward.org and donate or get involved and of course, check back and see when we will be having our next event for this great organization!
